Summer 2008 Interns
 Christopher  Estoch

Christopher Estoch
Intern

Christopher Estoch is an intern at the Global Perspectives Office. He is in his third year at the University of Central Florida and is currently majoring in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations. Estoch was recently awarded a Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship with the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. His research interests include strategic weapons, human rights and genocide. He has traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.


 Misuk  Kim

Misuk Kim
Intern

Misuk Kim is an intern at the Global Perspectives Office. She is currently a senior at Rollins College and pursuing a B.A. in International Affairs with an emphasis on International Relations. She has been studying English and Korean Language and Literature at Dan-kook University in Seoul, South Korea. Kim has also served on the Academic Honor Council at Rollins College Hamilton Holt School. She is a Korean teacher at Orlando Korean School, which is supported by the Korean Embassy. Her research interests include nuclear weapon issues of North Korea and relations between North Korea, South Korea, and the United States. She plans to pursue graduate degrees in International Relations, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region and comparative politics.  She speaks English and Korean.
 

 Xiaolin  Lu

Xiaolin Lu
Intern

Xiaolin Lu is an intern at the Global Perspectives Office. A graduate with honors from Rollins College , he earned a B.A. in International Affairs with a minor in Business Administration. He is also a member of Tau Sigma, the Academic Honor Society and a recipient of Outstanding College Students Award of The National Dean’s List. He was awarded a full scholarship by the Crummer Business School at Rollins to pursue an MBA degree with concentrations on International Business and Finance. He came to United States through The Walt Disney World International Program, participating at Epcot as a Cultural Representative from China. Lu is fluent in English and Mandarin, and speaks some Cantonese. Lu also served as a journalist and consultant at Good Life Media and a researcher at the China Center at Rollins College. His areas of research include business development and economy in China, as well as politics in Asia.


 Michael  Marcous

Michael Marcous
Intern

Michael Marcous is an intern at the Global Perspectives Office. He is in his third year at the University of Central Florida and currently pursuing a B.A. in International Studies with an emphasis on the Middle East. Michael was recently awarded the Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic at the Center for Maghrib Studies in Tunis, Tunisia. He has also studied the history of Islam at the University of Cambridge as a President's Scholar. Marcous is currently a Resident Assistant in the Towers at the Golden Knight's Plaza. His research interests include the war in Iraq and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

 Tyler  Cain

Tyler Cain
Intern

Tyler Cain is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office. He is a senior at the University of Central Florida, pursuing a B.A. in Political Science: International Relations and Comparative Politics. His areas of research interest include development, international law, and economic trade. Tyler serves as the Secretary of the French Club at UCF and is an Honor’s in the Major student whose thesis focuses on Central Asian energy policy. After graduation he will pursue a law degree with a focus on international law. Tyler has traveled extensively throughout the Americas and speaks conversational French and some Spanish.

 Brooke  Feldman

Brooke Feldman
Intern

Brooke Feldman is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office; she researches Israeli/Palestinian Relations. Feldman's interests range from the impact of globalization on indigenous cultures to environmental degradation. She is completing her senior year Trinity Preparatory School. Upon graduatoin, Brooke plans to study anthropology and international relations in college. She has studied abroad in Israel and spent a summer teaching in a small Costa Rican village. Feldman, a native to Central Florida, speaks conversational Spanish.

 Mohenna  Sarkar

Mohenna Sarkar
Intern

Mohenna Sarkar is an intern in the Global Perspectives Office. She is a sophomore at Haverford College, majoring in Political Science and Environmental Science with a minor in East Asian Studies. She is an active member of Amnesty International and her college’s student government. Her research interests are in environmental sustainability and international political theory and after graduation she intends to further her education by attending law school. Born in India, Sarkar has also lived in the Middle East before moving to the United States. Along with her native languages of Bengali and Hindi, she is also conversational in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.

 Briannie  Torres

Briannie Torres
Intern

Briannie Torres is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a graduate of UCF with a B.S. in Business Administration - Marketing. She is currently pursing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at UCF. Briannie has traveled throughout Eastern and Western Europe, Australia, the Caribbean, Central America, and the United States. She is co-owner of a student-based travel company that provides educational and missionary trips abroad for high school and college student. She was born in Puerto Rico and speaks fluent Spanish. Briannie has been studying French and Romanian for most of her college career.


 Erin  Williams

Erin Williams
Intern

Erin Williams is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a senior at UCF, pursuing a B.A. in Political Science (American Politics and Policy track) with minors in Women’s Studies and Sociology. She is interested in the impact of globalization on women around the world. Erin is a consultant at the University Writing Center, a facilitator for the Young Women Leaders Mentor Program, and is currently researching college women’s civic engagement for her Honors in the Major thesis. After graduation, she will pursue an M.A. in Women’s and Gender studies. Erin was born in Canada and has traveled to Switzerland and France.


 Shelly  Yu

Shelly Yu
Intern

Shelly Yu is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office. She is in her third year at the University of Central Florida pursuing a double major in Political Science (International Relations track) and Social Work. Her areas of interest include development theories, human rights and welfare systems. Her Honors in the Major Thesis explores the relationship between culture and development, with an emphasis on the African states of Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and Guinea Bissau. She is involved in the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity for community service. She speaks fluent Chinese and has been to Taiwan.

 Gaston  Blanchet

Gaston Blanchet
Intern

Gaston Blanchet is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and Diplomacy Program.   Gaston is a Junior at UCF, pursuing a B.A. in Management.  During his senior year, he plans to pursue a yearlong International Business exchange program in France.Gaston is fluent in Spanish, conversational in German, and is currently learning Mandarin. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue an M.B.A in Shanghai, China. Gaston was born in Buenos Aires, and grew up in Vienna, Austria, before moving to the States.


 Paula  Ferreira

Paula Ferreira
Intern

Paula Ferreira is an Intern for the Global Perspectives Office and Diplomacy Program. She is a senior at Rollins College pursuing a B.A. in International Affairs. Her areas of interest are Middle Eastern politics and culture.  She plans to travel to the Middle East in the near future. She is a native of Brazil with an Italian background and speaks Portuguese, Spanish, French and some Italian. She has traveled throughout Europe, the United States and Latin America. In addition, Paula has been a resident of Central Florida for 12 years and plans to continue on to Law school after her graduation.


 Chelsea  Smith

Chelsea Smith is a high-school intern for the Global Perspectives Office and Diplomacy Program. She is a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Seminole High School and, upon graduation, plans to study international business. She has traveled throughout Europe and the United States. A Central Florida native, she speaks Spanish.


 Kelsey  Wohlman

Kelsey Wohlman
Intern

Kelsey Wohlman is an Intern for the Global Perspectives Department and Diplomacy Program.  She is a senior at UCF pursuing a B.A. in Political Science, International Studies with a dual minor in Middle Eastern Studies and Psychology.  International travel and culture are particular areas of interest to her.  After spending the last summer interning in Washington, D.C. with the U.S. State Department, she has decided to pursue a career with the Foreign Service after graduation in December.  She has lived throughout the United States, as well as in England, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

Lori-Ann Barnett
Intern

Lori-Ann Barnett is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and Diplomacy Program. She graduated from UCF in 2007, with a B.A. in Political Science (International Relations and Comparative Politics) and a minor in Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies. Barnett was previously an intern at the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs. She is pursuing a master’s in public administration, with an international emphasis, at UCF. Born in Jamaica, she speaks French and Spanish.


 William  Jarvis

William Jarvis
Global Connections Scholar

William Jarvis is a Global Connections Scholar for the Global Perspectives Office, the Diplomacy Program, the Terrorism Studies Program and the Global Connections Foundation. He was previously an intern. His studies focus on macro-history and philosophy, and he has traveled to Hungary and the Czech Republic. In 2007, Jarvis graduated from Rollins College with a degree in International Affairs. He has career interests in law, diplomacy and fiction-writing.

Kimberly Carl
Intern

Kimberly Carl is an Intern for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a senior at UCF majoring in Political Science – International Studies with a minor in European Studies. She is a transfer student from the University of Florida where she was a research assistant in the European Union Studies Department and worked on a project entitled Economization and Democratization in Eastern Europe. She plans to obtain her masters degree at the University of Central Florida next fall.


 Fernando  Gonzalez

Fernando Gonzalez is an Intern for the Global Perspectives Office. He is a junior at UCF majoring in Political Science-International Relations and Comparative Politics. He has traveled through out the Caribbean and the United States and plans on traveling through out the Middle East, which is an area of interest to him. Having been born in Puerto Rico he is fluent in Spanish and has lived the majority of his life in Central Florida. After graduating, he plans to attend law school with an emphasis in international law.


 Lissette  Lanza

Lissette Lanza

Lissette Lanza is an intern in the Global Perspectives Office. She is pursuing a major in Political Science-International Relations at the University of Central Florida and a minor in Economics. She is the current Secretary of the U.N. Association at UCF, and she is a sister of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. Lissette is from Peru, and live in Germany and Canada. She had traveled through South America, Europe, and Canada. She speaks Spanish, German, and basic French.


 Evelyn  Tonn

Evelyn Tonn
Intern

Evelyn Tonn is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and the Diplomacy Program. She was a Lawrence J. Chastang Global Fellow in the Fall of 2006. She is a senior Political Science: International Relations Major in the Burnett Honors College. She is currently writing her Honors in the Major Thesis “Globalization vs. Localization: A comparative global analysis of the attitudes of University Students” She was a recipient of the 2006 David L. Boren National Security Education Program Scholarship to study Arabic at the University of Jordan and has studied abroad at Cambridge University.

Oksana Baker

Oksana Baker is an Intern for the Global Perspectives Office and the Diplomacy Program. She is a graduate of Rollins College, with a B. A. in International Affairs. She is a member of International Council of Central Florida and provides Russian language interpreting assistance. Born in Ukraine, she is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, and speaks some German. She is an Anil Deshpande Award recipient. She traveled to Russia, Moldova, Poland, Check Republic, United Kingdom, and the U. A. E.


 Samantha  Freid

Samantha Freid

Samantha Freid is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and the Diplomacy Program. She graduated from Lake Highland Prep in 2005. Samantha attended the University of Massachusetts/Amherst for the 2005-2006 school year. She is currently a sophomore at the University of Central Florida, and is pursuing a B.A. in Print Journalism.

She traveled to China as an exchange student last year over the winter break. Born in Russia, Elvira is fluent Russian and speaks some Spanish.

Shane Burk is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and the Diplomacy Program. He is a junior at Rollins College majoring in International Affairs. His central focus is the Japanese language, culture, and politics. He has traveled to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, the Caribbean, and Europe.


 Timothy  Dill

Timothy Dill is an intern for the Global Perspectives Office and the Diplomacy Program. He is currently a senior at the University of Central Florida, pursuing a B.A. in International Studies and minors in Middle Eastern Studies and Economics, as well as a Cadet in UCF Army ROTC. Timothy spent five years of his childhood in Japan, and has studied Arabic as well as Japanese at UCF.
